Jay-Z has released a statement following the dismissal of a sexual assault lawsuit against him, declaring the allegations “baseless” and expressing concern over the emotional distress the case has caused his family.
Jay-Z releases OFFICIAL statement after sexual assault lawsuit
The lawsuit, filed in October by Jane Doe, accused Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty when she was 13 years old. The suit was dropped on Friday after the complaint was refiled in December.
In his statement, Jay-Z stated, “Today is a victory. The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed.” He continued, “This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims.” He added, “I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones and I have endured can never be dismissed.”
Jay-Z criticises lawsuit
Jay-Z also criticized the lawsuit, referring to it as a “money grab” and taking aim at Jane Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzzbee. He added that the court system had failed in this instance. He said, “The system has failed. The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence.”
He concluded his statement by saying, “May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally,” as reported by Page Six.
